HALF-EARTH DAY
OCTOBER 29, 2025
(DATE VARIES BY YEAR)
Half Earth Day is a campaign that advances the radical conservation concept that was proposed by biologist E.O. Wilson: reserve half the land and oceans of the planet in conservation to maintain biodiversity and stabilize the ecosystems. Noticed by scientists, conservationists and some policy advocates, it attempts to showcase the magnitude of intervention required to prevent mass extinctions due to loss of habitats, global warming and overexploitation. As the proposal exposes realistic, social, and economic concerns of land use and equity, Half Earth Day is a symbol to rally governments, businesses, and communities to high science-based aspirations of protecting nature.
Earth is the only known planet to support complex life, giving the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soil that grows our food, and the varied ecosystems to support climatic structure and human well being; its limited resources and systems are interdependent, and therefore local actions have global ramifications, so preserving biodiversity, limiting pollution, and maintaining natural cycles are not only mandatory to the present generations but also to the maintenance and success of future generations
To promote this day :
Mobilize member organizations for synchronized local events (community tree plantings, habitat cleanups, citizen-science surveys) and provide a ready-made event kit with messaging, materials lists, safety guidelines, and permit templates.
Implement a unified digital push with one hash tag, visuals that can be shared and brief action calls (pledge, donate, volunteer) to increase the reach in the social platforms of partners and involve influencers and local authorities.
Partner with schools and businesses to run hands-on education and sponsorship programs (service-learning projects, workplace volunteer days) with measurable targets and a post-event impact report to demonstrate outcomes.
Make today the day you take one small step for nature and one bold step for yourself.
Join us this Half-Earth Day to protect the vital habitats that sustain life on our planet. By dedicating half of Earth’s lands and seas to nature, we secure clean air and water, resilient food systems, and a stable climate for communities and businesses alike. Take action: support local conservation projects, advocate for stronger protected-area policies, and adopt land- and sea-friendly choices in your daily life. Together—science, communities, and governments—we can safeguard biodiversity and build a healthy, prosperous future for people and nature. Stand with us this Half-Earth Day and be part of the solution.
